This box was most likely used for religious ceremonies. They originally held holy oil which was used to anoint in baptism, and last rights given by the priests. The letters here are in Latin as follows:OS=Oleum Sanctum (Holy Oil) OI =Oleum Infirmum (oil for anointing) & SC=Sancta Chrism (used for baptizing! ).
