1913 Philip Moreland, son of the founder, retired. Here is a short history of Morelands Samuel John Moreland began making Lucifer and Vesta matches. 1897 S. J. Moreland employed 450 people. This work was completed the following year and the first continuous automatic match making machinery was installed.
