This Burmese Kalaga tapestry is hand-embroidered on a black velvet background. It is a typical tapestry with padded figures cut from various types of cloth and sewn onto the black velvet background to form an elaborate scene, traditionally from a Burmese classical play. The figures are sewn using a combination of metallic and plain threads and adorned with sequins, beads and glass stones. We, my late husband and I, fell in love with its intricate embroidery. We bought in an antique shop in Chang Mai, Thailand in 1992.
