Manufactured by Joseph and Jesse Siddons of West Bromwich established in 1846. The underside of the lid is marked "J & J SIDDONS" "WEST BROMWICH" "6 IN". The box iron was an alternative to the flat iron for which it was usual to have two or more flat irons warming on the stove to use in rotation.
