This is an antique Egyptian Revival appliqué wall hanging, likely made in Cairo in the early 1900s to sell to collectors and tourists. The piece is hand-sewn with brightly dyed fabric cut-outs on a coarse linen backing. It depicts the god Osiris seated on a throne, with another standing figure before him. The style is characteristic of the "Egyptomania" craze that swept the world following the discovery of the tombs in the Valley of the Kings. This piece has been looked after well in acid free paper away from natural light therefore its colours are exceptionally good. One obvious colour stain in little place as photographed at the bottom of the piece but in amazing condition for its age. 91cm high by 47cm wide
