This is a wonderful old piece of folk art. It is from Sicily. In actual fact it is a hand painted donkey cart seat and storage box. It dates from the late 19th century I believe. It is beautifully decorated with hand painted scenes of Holland. There are two different scenes one of windmills and the other of sailing ships... Quite wy the artist chose these scenes in Sicily is a mystery! Anyway this is a highly decorative piece that would fit well in any environment.
