Rare Novelty Silver Salmon Combination Pencil, Walter Thornhill, London, 1880

Rare Novelty Silver Salmon Combination Pencil, Walter Thornhill, London, 1880

£276.30

A rare Victorian silver novelty combination propelling pencil, whistle and multi-tool by Thornhill & Co. (Walter Thornhill), London circa 1880. Wonderfully modelled in the form of a fish - the tail acting as a whistle, the pencil sliding out the mouth, and the other parts folding out the body. The body is engraved and decorated with stylised fins and engraved with a registered design lozenge, dated 1 November 1879. Whistle does not seem to make a sound when blown and a bit of corrosion on the steel elements. I am not sure if the pencil is complete. Lovely rare piece of novelty silver. Length: 8.3cm
