This is a rare Georgian c1795-1800 Old Sheffield plate nautical twin decanter holder modelled as a clinker-built naval jolly boat. This is a beautifully made item which is called “The Jolly Boat” ( on the stern ) designed to securely hold 2 heavy cut circular cut glass decanters ( not included ) These were popular with naval officers and has a Green baize on the base ( resting pad ) that meant it could be pushed the port or wine across the table - this is where the phrase “ Push the boat out” is supposedly coined from. Boat measures 32cm x 14cm and can fit decanters measuring 11cm across Surviving holders as these are housed in Victoria and Albert Museum These are rare and depicted some mild tarnishing, this is in very good condition.
