Rare Pirkenhammer Pope Benedict XV porcelain plate, 1915. Porcelain manufacturing company located in Czechoslovakia, was founded in 1802. Pope Benedict. (1854-1922) an Italian referred as the pope of missions, served as the pope of the Catholic Church 1914 to 1922 during World War I and focused on humanitarian efforts to lessen the impacts of the war. The plate measures 6 1/2 inches in diameter. Excellent condition with little wear. This plate appears to be part of a special commission. possibly a papal event or as a gift. The Central crest suggests a direct link to the Vatican or a significant ecclesiastical figure making it a rare and historically valuable piece of porcelain art.
