Rare Antique Allez Freres Paris Cast Iron Sad Iron / Flat Iron No. 4. The Allez Frères No. 4 Sad Iron is a collectible 19th-century or early 20th-century solid cast iron flat iron. It was retailed by Établissements Allez Frères, a famous Parisian hardware department store located at 1 Rue Saint-Martin from 1856 through the 1930s. Top stamp reading “ETABLISSEMENTS ALLEZ FRES PARIS”; (Frères abbreviated as Fres). The Number 4 indicating the size and weight classification. Forged entirely out of heavy cast iron. Unlike ‘cool-handle’ irons, the handle on a sad iron is solid metal and molded directly to the base. 14.9cm long x 8.5cm wide x 9.5cm tall. A rare piece for iron collectors.
