Peter Fendi was born in Vienna on September 4, 1796, to Joseph and Elizabeth Fendi. His father is a schoolmaster1. Fendi has demonstrated a talent for drawing since childhood. He was admitted to the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts1 in 18105, at the age of 13.
