The casting is stamped "P.H. Mourey", referencing the French sculptor and designer whose work is associated with decorative French clocks, candelabra and garnitures of the period. While many of Mourey's designs were produced in bronze, this example appears to be made from gilt spelter (zinc alloy) with a gilt finish, a material commonly used for high-quality decorative pieces of the era.
