An excellent and beautifully patinated bronze mortar. Made circa 1650 at a Whitechapel foundry, London. Well formed and with a central decorative band of interlaced scrolls, shells & leaves. Recessed 'foot' to the base slightly elevates the mortar, making this display very well. 13.5cm diameter 11cm high Lots of dings and dents, particularly around the rim & interior. Areas of wear and scratch to the patination. Small areas of casting fault. Other imperfections and wear.
