The case or cover is Shagreen which as I’m sure you are aware is sharkskin and Ray Skin, very collectable. A very good looking, well made and decorative little piece of High Victorian Elegance. This compact would have been the absolute height of sophistication in Victorian society in the 1860’s to 1880’s.
