Antique naval trunk, made from pine with wrought iron banding, fittings and corners. The trunk is mainly unpainted pine, except for the white painted fall front. This chest is 107 cm wide, 56 cm deep and 51 cm high. There is a brass plaque to the front with the makers name for 'Gieve's'. Gieve's of Portsmouth: Royally appointed and originally established in 1785 with a history of outfitters to the British Royal Navy. This rare travel trunk would have been used by a Naval officer to transport uniform and attire. This is a wonderful original trunk, which has seen some action and would make a wonderful interior design object. A true statement piece with, I'm sure, an interesting history.
