The oil painting has been taken from an 17h century Aubusson Tapestry and shows a female (Hero) playing a pipe with and a male (Leander) in the stormy sea from the sea. The painting is of an series of six famous Mortlake tapestries, that illustrate the ancient Greek myth of tragic love.
