A decorative pair of 19th century bronze dolphin supports in the classical revival manner. Each dolphin is modelled with arched body, stylised scales and bifurcated tail, mounted on circular stepped mahogany bases with green baize to the undersides. Inspired by ancient Roman marine ornament and the Grand Tour taste popular throughout the 19th century, these make excellent desk ornaments, paperweights, or sculptural supports beneath a specimen marble bar or small architectural element. The bronzes retain a rich brown patina with light surface wear consistent with age. The mahogany bases are in good order Mid–late 19th century Italy Sold as a pair Marble rule not included
