This antique item is a goffering iron, also known as a tally iron or fluting iron, typically dating from the Georgian or Victorian era.It was used for shaping ruffles, frills, and lace on clothing.The apparatus consists of a metal cylinder mounted on a stand with a cast iron base.A heated inner rod would be inserted into the cylinder to provide heat for pressing the fabric. The poker iron has been hand forged a very nice item in its own right. The iron itself still has traces of original black paint.
