This exact model is closely related to Mount Lebanon’s “No. 5” or “No. 6” rocking chair patterns sold through the Shaker catalog in the 1870s–1900s. The tall back with four finely turned spindles and the oak construction place it among the more refined examples made for outside sale (the “fancy” trade) rather than the plainer versions used within the communities themselves.
