Deutsche Kolonie Blumenau Am Itajaí-Açu Brazil Wood Engraving From 1872 Rare

£10.91

Hermann Bruno Otto Blumenau (* 26. December 1819 in Hasselfelde; † 30. October 1899 in Braunschweig) was a German pharmacist and founder of the city named after him, Blumenau, in the state of Santa Catarina in Brazil. The city was founded in 1850 by German immigrants under the leadership of pharmacist Hermann Blumenau in what was then the province of Santa Catarina.[4] Along with Joinville and Brusque, it is one of the three centers of German colonization in Santa Catarina. The newspaper Der Urwaldbote, published from 1893 to 1941, was one of the most widespread German-language newspapers in Brazil. However, the half-timbered houses that are popular with many visitors (e.g. Prefeitura Municipal, Casa Moellmann) are mostly from recent times. In addition, most modern buildings are not real.
