The handles are crafted from sterling silver—bearing standard British assay hallmarks, purity symbols like the lion passant, and maker initials such as JB (associated with makers like John Biggin) and HW (associated with Henry Wigfull / Lee & Wigfull from Sheffield). Several handles also display raised British design registration numbers stamped along the collars to protect their ornamental patterns. Meanwhile, the blades are composed of base metal or plated steel, with markings such as EPNS stamped directly onto the metal surface.
