Wonderful extra large silver serving spoon made by French silversmith Louis Loyer. It is of ‘Thread and Shell Design’ and could possibly be a French stew spoon. Dating to the late 1800s. Loyer operated in Paris until 1922. I am selling a collection which dates to pre 1900. Measures 11 inches. Weight is shown in photos at 3.89 Troy ounces. There is a coat of arms on the back of the spoon. It reads ‘Sapienter et Audacter’which translates as Wisely and Boldly’ and is the motto of the Koch de Gooreynd family. In stunning condition; l have lightly cleaned it but prior this has been stored away for almost 100 years. Please look at my other pieces from this amazing set!
