This is a stunning completely hand made beaten copper and brass (or gilded metal) Arts and Crafts large casket or jewellery box. The fineness of the metal and attention to detail is incredible. This very much reminds me of the work of Jesson Birkett of Birmingham. But it has no makers marks so I cannot attribute it to a specific maker. There is an ink signature to the base which I believe reads, “Mason”. But it doesn’t ring any bells to me. It is a lovely rich patinated colour. It is constructed using many rivets. It measures 30cm long, 17cm deep and 9cm tall. The fabric inside is worn. The lid is ever so slightly bowed but not noticeably. It’s a great object.
