Extremely rare French antique apothecary jar from the 19th century, or pharmaceutical jar. Beautiful gold-trimmed paint, featuring a crest with snakes, wings, and anchors. The jar reads POM: PICIS, which is Latin for APPLE: RESIN, and the portrait is of the famous Greek physician Claude Galien. Large! Measures approx. 11" to top of knob and 4.5" wide. The porcelain is in beautiful shape, with minor scuffs & so forth due to its age. The main flaw is a section on the rim of the vessel, where the pain is smudged (original?) -- see all pics.
