A lovely Victorian pewter tankard in good condition for it's age. It is marked VR 28 LCC. The marks indicate it was approved by London County Council (LCC) during the reign of Queen Victoria (VR), with 28 being the uniform verification number indicating London/Middlesex. Researching these marks show that the tankard was made and stamped between 1891 when the LCC began and 1901 when Queen Victoria died. We've never polished it as we like the dull finish, but it could easily be shined up. There's the expected wear and dents as shown in the photos. It measures just over 5" tall, 3.5" wide across the rim and weighs 604g.
