Antique wooden chest that has latterly had a rather interesting paint job. Inscription on the underside of the lid dates it to at least 1870, but it could be older. Although not the traditional shape of a sailor’s chest, it has that feel. Perhaps it was for ‘Alice’ to take to boarding school or on a journey to some far flung corner of the empire. Imperial dimensions: 15” wide 12” deep 10” tall Wood appears to be pine.
