A Late Victorian/Edwardian hearth stool, also commonly known as a fender stool. This example is late Victorian / Edwardian, 1880-1910. These long, low stools were historically designed to sit in front of a fireplace (the hearth) to provide a comfortable place to rest your feet while being low enough not to block the warmth or the view of the fire.
