Rare early 19th Century Lockable Toleware Spice Box and Grater. 5 labelled spice containers, for Nutmeg, Mace, Cloves, Allspice, Cinnamon and a built in grater in its lid. Inside the hinged compartment on its right hand side is another small spice grater. Box is approximately 20cm x 12cm x 7cm Used to secure valuable spices in the early 1800s. A box with some paint loss, wear and patina from 200 years of use, but some remaining gilded decoration, particularly on the rear, and on the lid.
