Antique Coalbrookdale Cast Iron Fruit Dish. The design for this fruit dish was first produced about 1820 by the distinguished German architect and designer Karl Friedrich Schinkel (1781-1841) for the Prussian Royal Foundry. It uses the same frieze of hippocamps and mermen that appears on the iron balustrade for the Schlossbrücke in Berlin (1819-24). This particular example is beautifully and crisply cast and in excellent condition throughout. Illegible foundry mark to reverse. Diameter 30cm
