An antique 19th century British royal navy oak battle rattle with makers mark stamped on bottom, i can quite make it out ,but I'm sure it could be worked out. Also I believe this was used as a football rattle latter on in life as it does have Portsmouth 1951 carved on it. A great piece of history that is in great working condition.
