A very fine late 18th-century knife box, retaining its original fitted interior, which remains in crisp and well-preserved condition. The exterior is veneered in beautifully figured mahogany, offering an attractive and classic appearance. The escutcheon is present; however, the lock catch is missing, so the lock is not currently functioning. The hinges are possibly later replacements and have replacement screws. There are also a few areas of veneer loss, along with some minor cracks and chips, all of which can be seen in the photographs. Overall, this is a very pleasing and decorative box, one in which a set of cutlery would look exceptional!
