An antique gaff hook thought to be Japanese approx 10"/26cms in length

An antique gaff hook thought to be Japanese, which was most likely used in the fishing industry. Naturally has had wear and tear. Unsure of its age. It does have some slight carved lettering on the base which is illegible.
