Prison Drawers with a Naval Connection A charming bank of four wooden drawers, reputedly from Plymouth Borough Gaol, which closed in 1930. Inside one drawer is a pencilled inscription reading “HMS Howe”, suggesting the drawers may later have seen service with the Royal Navy. With their original handles, keyholes, and well-worn patina, these drawers have plenty of character and tell a fascinating story of institutional use. Whether in a prison office or a naval setting, they are a wonderful piece of Plymouth’s history.
